DEBATE
1. “Working women make better mothers than women who stay at home”. Express your views either for or against this statement.
For the motion
The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world. It is very true that mothers play an important role in the growth and development of the future generations. These days, there is a fight between two kinds of mothers. Working and nonworking mothers are constantly fighting and debating to figure out who is the better parent.
In my opinion, an educated and a working woman will have a more positive impact on the child and hence is more capable of moulding the density of the future generation. Now when the women are moving shoulder to shoulder with men and moving ahead in life, debating on this is like emotionally blackmailing and making them weak. It is also like accusing them that they are shrinking from their responsibility and bringing up their children well. They should not be made to feel small and that they are running away from their duty of a home maker and are only bothered about their position and moving forward in their professional life.
In the age of Apparent equality, women are increasingly encouraged to have it all, balancing career, children and marriage in the order to be seen as successful. One time you talked about the necessity of a woman to actively participate in the country’s economic growth and then when she steps out you shout hoarse that she is not balancing her home and office with the result that children are running astray.
I think it is not right to constrain and limit woman to Housekeeping and child rearing and waste the abundant potential which is within them. We should not this be stuck in tedious arguments about weather woman, especially mothers, should or should not work. What is not worthy is that it is the happiness of a woman we should really be talking about. Happier women are better women, happier wives are better wives and happy mothers are better mothers.
Thank you.
Against the motion
I totally disagree with this statement. If a woman is working outside the home, she can only feed her baby once or twice a day and that is not enough for the well being of the child.
Child learns by example and so the first school of the child is the home and the first teacher is the mother. If a woman walks outside the home how would she have the energy to tell bedtime stories and moral lessons to the child. She may not be there at meal times and the child would have to be kept in the care of a nurse. She would not be able to ensure that the child gets proper management in all important formative years.
When a woman is at home she has enough time to spend with her children not because she has less work to do but because, being at home, she is there for the child whenever needed. The children get time to share their problems, happiness fun and curiosity with their mother. She teaches them manners, traditions and Customs. The child’s best friend is its mother but if she is too busy taking care of both the home and her job how would she have the time and energy to be there for the child? Working women has to leave her child when he or she is barely a month old. She remains constantly worried about her child. Child cannot be looked after properly in her absence. As a result babysitters are hired by those, who often turn out as fraud.
Hence, I would like to conclude that done working women make better mothers then working women. If a woman stays at home and looks after her home and family, it is definitely more conducive both to her own well-being and that of her family. Event napoleon’s spoke about the role of mothers in bringing up great children leading to a great nation.

2. “Boarding schools are far better than day schools for the all around education of a child”. Express your views either for or against this statement.
For the Motion
I agree that boarding schools are far better than day schools for the all around education of a child.
Students in a Boarding School so better progress and are supposed to be more disciplined. Further more there are many special helper programs available such as mentor mentee program. The purpose of this program system is to provide guidance to students about academic matters and to Foster a closed and constructive professional relationship between students and the staff of the faculty. While all the lecturers in the faculty or potentially academic advisors to all the students who seek their advice, is teacher which is a mentor, is assigned particular responsibility to a small group of students which are the mentees. In Delhi schools, program like this is less held compared to boarding schools.
Moreover, children will learn to be independent and deal with difficult and tough situations on their own. This will help them grow as an individual and bring out the best in him or her. This is because, students who are in boarding schools are mostly far apart from their parents. They have to stay in the hostels in their school. They usually have to make their own decision to do something, unlike daily school students who always depend on their parents.
Moreover small class size, diverse curricular and individual attention from faculty and Advisors gives students many distinct advantages so that students can focus on their education well. At the same time, the teachers can give more attention to individuals who do not understand about some topics as the number of students in the class are very little. Boarding School reduces compartmentalization, because academic stood studies are blended with other activities, such as Sports. This natural juxtaposition increases the appeal of both pursuit.
Students learn to govern their own behaviour. Parents no longer have to seem like ogres or nags. Also in many cases student appreciation for parents greatly increases.
As the conclusion, I want to emphasize that boarding schools are better than the normal day schools because it produces individuals who can tackle the real world weather there attitude and discipline determine success.
Against the Motion
In my opinion, Play Schools are better than boarding schools.
Many days schools offer co education facilities and this is an important requirement in terms of today’s world. Interacting with the opposite sex in the early years will enable children to be comfortable in the presence of the opposite sex when they reach stage where they might have to work alongside them in an official environment. Although there may be a few boarding schools that offer to education, day schools clearly outnumber the boarding schools doing this and Co education in day schools is a much more accepted and existent structure, specially in India.
Day schools are preferred option as they are much less expensive than a boarding school. Tuition fees in day schools are cheaper. Most of the good quality day schools are relatively cheaper than boarding schools and this is another reason why parents of for days schools over boarding schools. Day schools allowed parents to admit students in private tuitions of their choice as well , in case there children need extra coaching. Most boarding schools in India have fees that are a bit exorbitant, and unless parents are willing to find a new experience and style of education for their children, most average Indian parents prefer day schools.
More over if children are used to the Comforts at home, then they might find it difficult to survive in a boarding school. Day schools enable the children to relax a bit more than boarding schools. In a boarding school, students are required to take part in many events and many students find it difficult to deal with this schedule.
Furthermore in case of any sickness or injury, parents can be with their children immediately if they are admitted in a day school. Some children require parents to be constantly by their side, especially if something untoward happens.
Thank you.
3. “Money causes more harm than good”. Express your views either for express your views either for or against this statement.
For the Motion
It is a common saying that money is the root of all Evil. Idealistic wonder why we cannot live in a world where everyone is equal, and where there is no greed our jealousy resulting from status differences. Unfortunately they overlook the fact that our desire to have higher status than others is part of our human nature and nothing can change it. Man’s desire to rise ahead of others is too strong and money is the only thing that man completes for.
It’s good to have money and the things that money can buy but it’s good to check up once in a while and make sure that you have not lost the things that money cannot buy. Money comes and goes but what stays our memories with our family and friends. People kill people for money. Abundance really brings anything other than increased sorrows, war, crimes and robbery which is happening because of money. More and more people are finally realising that money cannot bring them the happiness they Crave for.
There are things that are far more important than having money, things like spending time with family and loved ones and enjoying your career. Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you cannot get more time. If one has to work 15 hours a day and never get time to spend with family, friends and spend the money, that what good does it do?
You have not lived a perfect day, even do you have earned your money. While money cannot buy happiness, it certainly let you choose your own form of misery. Money is necessary, but it is not the only thing. And once our basics are covered, we find that we have richness in being together and enjoying the simple things. We certainly have to be careful to set up our priorities correctly to avoid regrets letter in the life.
Money can help fill a host of materials needs. But learning to be content is far more important. Do money can buy status, friendship or even save you from a sticky situation, but all these evaporates once your money vanishes. However comma time invested in love and quality friendship last eternally.
Thank you.
Against the Motion
I strongly condemned the motion that money causes more harm than good.
In my opinion, money is an essential commodities that helps us in our life. Without money people will stop working with eagerness. When there is equality everywhere the determination to work will decrease. A person who works hard will get the same benefit as the person who is lazy. Hence it will be wrong. Ultimately everyone will stop working and there will be a halt at progress, no development and everything will stop.
I would like to state that the money is not everything, but money is something very important. Beyond the basic needs, money helps us achieve our lives goals and supports the things we care about most family, education, health care, Charity, adventure and fun.
It helps us get some of life’s intangibles freedom or Independence, the opportunity to make the most of our skills and talents, the ability to choose our own course in life, financial security and much more.
Further more money is a means to trade our skills for what we need. Who dreams of being a garbage collector, or serving at the restaurant? No one. So who determines who should fill those positions? How many of them should be there? However, with money people choose these positions because they are not motivated or qualified enough to do anything else.
Moreover, it is the money that creates respect and honour for someone. It is the money that takes the most shrewed one. Money can give us the power to make a difference in the lives of others. Thus, I would like to I really through a Universal token such as money, just like it is a requirement of life as an individual to be surrounded by air to breathe.
Thank you.
4. “Private tuitions are a necessary evil”. Give your views either for or against this statement.
For the Motion
Private tuition is simply a part of the learning process. It has become a mainstay and a big part of our system of education. Private tuition has existed for decades and will always exist because we have a system of education which is coupled with competition. Without that additional work, it is not easy for a student to compete with his classmates. Very often what he gets in the class is highly inadequate for him to enter the race. To be competitive, he is compelled to seek extra work outside school hours to stay in the race to pass the finishing line.
Today the work done in class is not sufficient for those who are in quest for knowledge or who are on the competitive track. Today in Manish Secondary Schools, teaching has become a veritable uphill task.
Very often the teacher finds himself in front of an incorporative class who deliberately puts a spoke in his wheel and makes his work real ordeal. A teacher, in spite of all the skill and competence, if does not get the cooperation of the class, it out early bogged down and is never able to deliver goods. Therefore, those who are in search of knowledge, are compelled to have records to private tuition.
Generally, a classroom is not conducted for individual teaching. The teacher Pupil interaction highly spoken of is not possible in the class. Teacher normally tries to avoid a dull student. So, such a student may fail to catch the eye of the teacher. In such cases, private tuition may be helpful. The Pupil may not only be taught, but also made to work at exercises which they would normally avoid in class. If the tuition master is honest, the pupils can progress and improve gradually.
Some of the topics that are not covered in the class or which requires supplementary reading could very well be done in tuition hour. Additional exercises could be done, better reading is possible, which may lead to better understanding. Thus, private tuitions are a necessary as they provide the needful to the students.
Thank you.
Against the Motion
Back in those days, tuition was not necessary as education was not so emphasized. But nowadays many students prefer to go to tuition because they believe it can help them achieve success in examination. Gmail sign up for tuition either because they are forced by their parents or just out of their own willingness. Some students decide on studying by themselves. However, deciding on taking tuition have great pros and cons on students achievement and life.
Private tuition makes a child to depend more on the teachers and the notes they gave rather than on himself. Children who take tuitions give stereotype answers because they do not use their own minds to produce answers rather they become machines of learning answers. Taking tuitions is very expensive as well and not everyone can afford to send their children for extra private tuition.
According to research, those children who take tuitions do not study seriously in the class because they feel that they can learn and grass the topics while taking tuitions. This way they disturb the whole class and in this manner they also waste the time of serious minded students. Now a days we can see that lots of teachers are more inclined in giving private tuitions as it has became a source of extra income for them, but this is completely against the noble profession of teaching. Teacher should make a target to set the maximum output in the class or school so that in that manner the tuition trend fades away and every child can get an equal opportunity to learn from their teachers.
Sometimes, tutors do arrive at the wrong timing. For instance, the students are not in the mood to learn all have gone through a hard day work in school and are, therefore mentally tired. Despite such a bad timing, the tuition sessions may still have to carry on, which make it on fruitful.
Does in my opinion private tuitions are not mandatory.
Thank you.
5. “More lessons are learnt on the sports field then in the classroom”. Express your views either for or against the statement.
For the Motion.
I do agree that more lessons are learnt on the sports field than in the classroom. In students life extra curricular activities empower them to make their own active decisions and also help them to gain and accurate experience, skills and confidence to read them on the path of their future.
It is truly considered that through participation in sports and different games, students learn cooperation, teamwork, leadership methods and time management.
If you consider deeply, the sports field is a mini field of life. Whatever we experience or learn here serve to be invaluable experiences to us for life.
Sports Foster friendship with amity. Sportsman forget cast and religious differences and became friendly with one another. They look upon the world as one family. Also sportsman have often to live together while undergoing training and participating in competitions. They understand one another and learn to make the adjustments for corporate life. They learn to respect one another’s individuality. In another words, thy learnt the virtue of tolerance. More ever when they go to the other countries to participate in international competitions, they are not nearly competitors but messengers of goodwill. They spread goodwill and love throughout the world.
Furthermore, young people have surplus energy and if this is fruit fully utilised, the foundations are like for a healthy society, where people are fully aware of the need for discipline, Cooperative effort, team spirit, the cult of sportsmanship, of joint devotion to the achievement of a common goal in collaboration with others. They also learn to cultivate the vital quality of learning how to work together to become not only good winners, but also good losers.
It’s simply gives us the courage to rise and fight again. Abs failure makes us tougher for the next round of fight. Moreover, the sports field naturally instructs people to play the game of life in the right spirit, which is what matters most, not victory or defeat.
Thus in so many ways to education we received and relations will learn on the sports field or more than those villain in our class rooms.

6. The use of mobile phones has lowered active social life and has become an addiction”. Express your views either for or against this statement.
For the Motion
Society means and organised group of people wear cultural, social and moral values find the people together. But the use of mobile phones has lowered our active social life and has become an addiction. In our Indian society, guests are regarded as called but no more to God’s visit us in the form of relatives or friends. All these social obligations are being carried out by the means of mobile phones. Our birthdays anniversaries and other such social occasions are supported by sending messages and the formality is over. The trend of sending greeting cards is now outdated as well as we feel that messages on mobile phones are more meaningful.
Mobile phones are also responsible for the deterioration of social values and commitments. Before the advent of this nuisance, people use to make out time for their busy schedules and plan trips and holidays to visit their relatives. These visits would be the subject of discussion at the dinner table and lots of excitement and enthusiasm would ensure. It would be a time to step out of there mundane in everyday life and visit a different part of the world. It would bring us closer to our relatives and friends and a sense of belonging would prevail. Nothing can replace the emotions one feels at being in close physical contact with your loved ones, but its really sad to see or that all these emotions have been snatched away and we have now all been reduced to living electronic lives where no one has a time for social visits anymore.
Socialization is a necessary process which must not be handled by the presence of mobile phones which are good only for urgent situations and necessary communications. In the words of Camille Cords Lee, “Communication does not hold people together, it is threads and textures of their values which sew people together through the years”.
Thank you.
Against the Motion
I do not support the motion, the use of mobile phones has lowered active social life and has become an addiction.
In my opinion, mobile phones keep one in constant contact with people they consider important. Active social life in the hectic pace of life today has been lowered by our busy schedules comma not by our mobile phones. On the contrary, mobile phones help us to stay connected with our family and friends, which ever part of the world we may be living in. In days gone by, letters and telegrams were the major means of communication. A letter sent from India to a person in the US to minimum of three weeks to reach and an equal amount of time was taken for the reply to reach. Even if one tried to call from the land line one had to use ISD or STD facilities which may or may not be working and which were prohibitively expensive.
Now the rates are solo and the connectivity so good that we can talk everyday through our mobiles, as we wish.
Moreover, it is much easier to visit our loved ones today because all we have to do is call and find out if they are home and visit them. Coordinating a party is much easier with the use of mobile phones. Whether it is reserving ticket for Railways or for the airplane, one need not stand in long queue or call an agent. It can be done easily using the Internet on the mobile phones.
You are stuck in a long place, again you can call somebody and ask for directions. Moreover parents can be little less worried about their kids by being in constant touch with them. Using mobile phones distributor our communication to make it easier than before. The more you talk the more you know how to talk and the better your communication skills become. This is applicable if you are sensible person and note of your interacting habits over the phone. Thus, mobile phones has become a crucial part of our life. It has made communication easier and quicker. It is not an addiction but a necessity.
Thank you.
7. “No other subject taught in school is as important as Moral Science”. Express your views either for or against the statement.
For the Motion
In today’s rat race values are eroding fast. There is a total decadence in social and moral values. Children go to school daily thinking how to scale heights they will reach, how rich education can make them. In today’s cut throat competition even the parents instruct their wards that they should top in the class.
Childhood is very impressionable age. The mind is like soft wax, so whatever one is taught at a tender age it leaves a deep impression. Therefore, moral science must be made a compulsory subject in school curriculum. It is also a science of human soul, it’s a mirror of one’s involved mind, one’s ethics. Moral science inculcate values in mankind and value education is very vital from childhood.
Moreover, children spend so much of their precious time in schools. Therefore comma schools should shoulder the responsibility of imparting moral values to them. In order to make them self reliant, confident and responsible citizens, they need to be imparted with value based education, which only Moral Science can do. After all today’s child is tomorrow’s citizen.
Moral science is not a religion based subject. Raja it eliminates fanaticism, supervision and violence. It preaches “ Love all Serve all.” this value is lacking in today’s generation. It helps child to pay heed to his home science and not to be late away by worldly show. However, theoretical knowledge is not enough. Teachers should make their life exemplary to their students. The lives of great Patriots and spiritual leaders must be brought to the forefront. Only moral science can stem the tide of rapid value erosion and motivate the students towards a healthy life. As a child is then trained emotionally comma mentally and physically how to be a responsible citizen or a good son or a daughter. They can resist wrong peer pressure, intolerance and through right conduct lead forward their Nation.
Furthermore, moral science helps a person to become a better human being. One becomes more understanding, patient, pious, decent and wise. One Learns to do things without any selfish motives. Pleasure is derived in doing things for others as one feel that he or she is doing it for good. The end result is that the world can become better and happier place to live in. Peace and containment can be found.
Therefore there can be no doubt about the fact that no other subject taught in school is as important as moral science. Let the light of spirituality shine through the eyes of the little ones.
Thank you
Against the Motion
I stand before you to contradict the statement, no other subject taught in school is as important as moral science. I would rather emphasize the point that knowledge is big power and this power comes through learning not nearly moral science but all other subjects even more seriously and intensively like Geography would unfold the mysteries of different regions on the globe. The study of applied science like maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology will unravel the past potentialities that can enrich our lives and resolve many mysteries about the atom and element, land and sky, stars and planets. Where is not much effort is required to learn ethics and morality, much mental labour is involved in learning subjects dealing with different branches of learning. Moral science teaches us about moral good and bad which can be learnt spontaneously and instinctively by watching the behaviour of the elders we come across daily.
The great advancement in technology in conquering time and space has been possible because much more Emphasis is being laid on the study of science. Now environmental study is being given more importance and it is made compulsory subject at all levels of school education. The global warming is threateningly increasing, poising unimaginable danger to our hard gained advancement in civilization More and more stress is being laid on protecting the environment and saving the fast depleting resources for our coming generation.
Men’s March to higher and higher ladder of Civilization will remain unhampered only if he gives himself a breast with the changing scenario and cokes with it on the strength of knowledge which and powers him to fight against any eventuality.
The harmonious development of a student’s personality can be possible with equal emphasis on the study of all subjects and not just becoming an island in to himself by simply meditating on God, life and death. Let such things be special subjects of religion and metaphysics to be taken up only by those exclusively interested in this particular branch. The more we learn about other subjects, the richer will be our knowledge.
Thank you
8. “Cinema, both entertains and educates the masses”. Express your views either for or against this statement.
For the Motion
Cinema is an extension of our lives. It takes us into a world where we forget our cells for a couple of hours. I surely agree that cinema both entertains and educates us.
The cinema has been a very popular medium of entertainment for all classes of people. This is especially true in case of India where the Bollywood stars are held at a very high Esteem by the common man. Every move they make is watched and every word they speak makes news. Our very lives today are being moulded whether we want it or not, by what we see on the silver screen.
Today cinema has become the most popular and the cheapest means of entertainment. It provides great relaxation for the hardworking labourers who have no other way of entertainment. For a few hours they escape into a different world all together and forget their boos and worries
Besides providing entertainment and amusement cinema also provides a kind of education. By showing on the silver screen the tales of action, adventure stories, lives of great people, as well as of successful men and women in different walks of life, the cinema gives us a taste of every field of life. Moreover, films have the ability to enlighten and enrich our knowledge. The moral impact of films is also noteworthy. Some good Indian movies emphasize on instilling noble values such as the importance of family ties, steadfastness in love, respect for elders, Patriotism, etc. The movies like border, Lagaan, Bhagat Singh have contributed to the growth of national fervour. A movie like Mani ratnam’s Bombay where the Bombay riots of 1991 after the Babri Masjid demolition or reenacted depicts very well what man has made of man in this modern world.
Cinema as an entertainer has a very wide appeal. The movies made in Bollywood are shown not only in India, but also across the world. When a person is mentally and physically tired, he looks forward to a good entertaining movie at the end of the weekend. Thus, we find that cinema has a very constructive impact in a multicultural country like India.
Thank you
Against the Motion
Today cinema is by no means a source of entertainment and it is certainly does not educated the masses. Today cinema houses are packed with either low class people or with Anti Social elements that go to the cinema only to pass comments, tease the fair sex or to pick a fight.
Today, no decent respectable person wishes to go to the cinema to watch a movie. They would prefer not to have any entertainment at all then to go through the harrowing experience of being pushed around in long queues or to hear the abusive language used.
Cinema is largely responsible for the depravity in society today. The vulgarity and the shameless exposure of the human anatomy have driven the teenagers towards forming an unethical society where all morals have been thrown out of the window. Violence packed films have given on you meaning to violence in society. Today teenagers walk about the guns in there pocket ready to implement what they have witnessed on the silver screen. Children have become disrespectful and disobedient. There was a time when children were afraid of their parents and teachers but today it is the other way around.
Cinema is having a tremendous negative influence on society. It is only not teaching you how to commit the crying but also how to dodge retribution successfully. Ideas are generated in the minds of the young and the restless and then ruthlessly implemented.
Today a poster displaying a man holding the national tricolour would hardly draw an audience, no matter how good the plot and the picturisation of the movie maybe, but us simply dressed beauty would draw enormous crowds even if the movie has no plot. Such is that changed cinema has brought about in the taste of the audience is that changed cinema has brought about in the taste of the audience. Movies with nudity and violence sell while movies on patriotic themes or religious themes become super flops. Cinema has displayed a major role in the degradation of the society and must not be considered means of entertainment or education for the masses.
Thank you.
9. “The computer will soon replace the book”. Express your views either for or against this statement.
For the Motion
Computers have already taken a major role as an information resource today. Computer technologies such as hypertext and the Internet remove the geographical constraints of print media and allow for a new method of distributing and reading documents. Books will always be affordable, concrete source of information, but the next ten years will bring computers that are faster to access comma as convenient to use and that hold more information than books.
With the Internet, one piece of information is accessible from millions of computers around the world. Researcher may need to travel no further than her computer to find a document in a virtual library 3000 miles away.
In next 20 years, print media may not be able to keep up with the exponential growth of information. Because the density of information on a computer is far greater than that of book, the Internet already holds more data than any physical library. Typical computer hard drive can hold around 2000 novels. In addition to this seemingly unlimited storage capacity, computers also provide much faster access to information. For example, looking upwards in a dictionary may take a few minutes while computers can give the definition for any word and pronounce it for you, immediately. The computers speed and space will make it is necessary Technology as we move into a new Millennium.
The future will bring even greater advantages to the computer over the book. Soon, computers will have screens that are crisper and more comfortable to view than a printed book. With new technology, computer screens will no longer strain the eyes and it will become feasible, even desirable to read an entire novel on a computer screen. Technology will soon produce a computer that is as compact, durable and comfortable to read as a book, but that could contain thousands of books in electronic form. Although computers will never completely supplant books but we may soon rely on them more than print media. Computers will meet our needs for information storage and distribution and will be convenient way to hold more information in less space than today’s book.
Thank you.
Against the Motion
Computers will never replace books. However useful the computer be, it is absurd to imagine it replacing books. Computers any day is far more expensive than books and do not work on fresh air but power through batteries and mains. One cannot lie in bed and read them leisurely and of course if milk or syrup spills on them the damage could be much more.
Computers have viruses and are not completely dependable but a book in a self is very dependable. It does not make you strain your eyes as computers. If I would write a novel it would be in paper. An e-novel can be tampered and I would never know the original unless I have the printed one with me. A book somehow has a belongingness. We can make our notes as well as turn to specific pages without really having much problems. One can sleep with a book on our bed side and wake up in the morning to read it.
Moreover with the help of computers, student simply copy paste and the matter is complete. The pride of a library and collecting first edition as well as autographed books of the author will have no relevance. A book reveals the nature of a person but with a computer no one knows who is an avid reader and who is not.
The printed books can easily be read and stored. Students can write their notes and refer to them. They can easily be destroyed and can be upgraded. The computer troubles its users.
While a book is perfect relaxation. The joy of placing your hands on a book and reading through its pages is ecstatic.
Books can never be replaced. No one is going to put computers into the hand of kindergarten students and then the rural areas can just about afford books. Imagine the cost of dishing out computers to every aspirant of knowledge. So, let’s forget about such an idea and leaves realistically.
Books may have delimitation but they can never be superseded by computers. No one wants to lose the joy of reading a book, and the end pronouncing to oneself that, it is finished.
Thank you.
10. “The commercialization of festivals has eroded there real significance”. Express your views either for or against the statement.
For the Motion
Commercialization has for reaching effects on festival across the globe. The impact of commercialization has Marred the real meaning of religious and traditional costumes.
I express my views hereafter in favour of the topic. The growing trend of globalisation has caused negative impression on age old beliefs. People tend to celebrate festivals not only as a customary practice, but also as a means to exercise their spending power. In this way, festivals lose their real significance since there in was first to spread love and peace and second, to celebrate the festival keeping in mind the reason why the festival was being celebrated. How many people today celebrate festivals, keeping in mind the religious or spiritual connection?
There are also some religious stories and incidents because of which a festival came into being, about which a majority of us are still on aware and we do not even make an effort to find out about them. The main reason for which people look forward to festivals is a holiday from work to enjoy and relax. Moreover, what excites them the most is showing off their wealth by exchanging gifts.
Even middle class people are caught up in this trap. Earlier, people would take out time to fish friends and relatives, but now people tend to feel that family gathering Andre unions have lost their meanings. Business minded people think of all these festivals as a money making opportunity. As soon as Diwali is up, the shops will be filled with Christmas trees, santa caps etc, almost 2 months before Christmas. No matter what religion we follow, every festival has significance and value, but when one commercialises festivals, that basic in is forgotten and everyone involved is thinking, what am I going to get on this festival?
I really think, children should be taught about traditional festivals in kindergarten and we should keep the valuable elements of the traditional festivals and preserve them for future generations.
Thank you
Against the Motion
I do not support the motion that commercialisation of festivals has eroded their Ariel significance.
The world is increasingly getting more cosmopolitan and secular. Many festivals which were once restricted to specific communities have assumed a pan Indian character. No doubt, this promotes national integration.
But today’s world has also opened the floodgates of the commercialization of festivals. Festival time is a boom time for opportunity seeking businessman. As the number of revellers willing to splurge increases every year, wily businesses houses come up with more ideas to cater to them and does we witnessed the rich variety of greeting cards, the plethora of speciality items related to a particular festival, the festival feast at restaurants and the festival themed shopping malls and supermarkets.
It is not necessary that everyone should celebrate the festival in the same way comma or that it should have the significance for everyone.
This depends on what is considered to be the basic in of a festival. In case of Christmas comma is it simply to praise god or is it to have a good time? Festivals in the middle of winter wear as much to banish long nights with merriment as to praise the Gods for the day beginning to get longer again. If it is simply about having a good time then commercialization makes little difference. Commercialization can even make having a good time is here as there will be more variety and festival is likely to get more spectacular.
With the changing times, these festivals are also changing in terms of the ways they are celebrated and the values which they hold through the basic legendary story behind the celebration of any such if remains the same, the generation gap can very well be noticed over here. Oldies still stuck to the traditional ways of celebration where as the youth blends liveliness to the event along with their innovative ideas of having unlimited fun.
In in my opinion, commercialization of festivals has made them all the more interesting and spectacular.
